Dr. Michael Shiau, D.D.S.
Dr. Michael Shiau (affectionately known as Dr. Michael) is a proud Northern Virginia native known for his light-hearted demeanor and gentle, meticulous touch. He genuinely cares for each patient as if they were family, creating an atmosphere of trust, comfort, and compassion.
Dr. Shiau earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Eager to return home and serve his community, he moved back to the D.C. area to complete his Doctorate of Dental Surgery at Howard University College of Dentistry.
To further his expertise, Dr. Shiau completed a General Practice Residency at St. Elizabeths Hospital in Washington, D.C., where he received advanced dental training. During his residency, Dr. Shiau also rotated through several Washington, D.C., hospitals and community clinics, including MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Howard University Hospital, So Others Might Eat, and Bread for the City. Through residency, Dr. Shiau strengthened his general dentistry and surgical skills while treating medically complex patients in hospital settings and underserved communities. Dr. Shiau maintains his expertise in modern dental techniques through regular participation in advanced continuing education courses. He complements this technical skill with a dedicated focus on preventive health and proactive at-home care.
Dr. Shiau recently married his best friend and soulmate, Dr. Cho Yi Wong, our in-house periodontist. Outside the office, they enjoy fitness training, cheering on their favorite sports teams, and spending quality time with their sweet dog, a Labrador Retriever named Olive Oyl—lovingly named after Popeye’s girlfriend from the classic cartoon Popeye.
